The Cove is a documentary from 2009 that exposes not only the tragedy of the killing of dolphins in Japan, but also portrays the dangerous risk of the high level of mercury in dolphin meat and other sea foods, it shows the cruelty of capturing dolphins for entertainment, and the abuse our oceans are suffering from the fishing and consumption of sea food world wide.
We can also see how the mandate of the International Whale Commission has been manipulated by the Japanese Fishing Agency for their benefit and their subsequent effect on the rest of the world.
The film was directed by a former photographer from National Geographic, Louie Psihoyos, and it was filmed secretly during 2007 using high definition submarine-like microphones and cameras camouflaged as rocks.
This film has won awards in the annual Sundance Film Festival in Park City on January 2009. It was chosen as one of the 16 finalists of the 879 nominees.
