Caramanchel is an alternative bar with an arty/hippie feel, an eclectic mix of music and a crowd floating on ‘good vibes.’ The bar plays host to a wide variety of cultural events and activities from Nicaragua and around the world. Concerts feature diverse genres of music, including rock, reggae and folk. They offer screenings of documentaries, art films and cult favorites. It is also common for Caramanchel to host art or photo presentations from locally based artists.
The ambiance is one of the bar’s highlights; open and airy with trees, soft lighting from Chinese-style lanterns and plenty of cover for the occasional rainy evening. There is a dance area that has a tendency to fill up, and the percentage of people grooving and dancing during concerts seems higher than many other venues. Perhaps it’s due in part to the groovy, accepting vibe that permeates the air.
Caramanchel offers a complete menu of food and cocktails. The quesadillas are full of cheesy goodness and definitely worth a try for a late night snack or even dinner. The mixed drinks are good, especially the mojitos, though you’d be wise to avoid the bar’s unfortunate attempt to create a michelada.
The bar is open Wednesday through Sunday from approximately 6:30 PM – 3:00 AM
