Santos “El Toro” Benevides’ emotional knockout of Wilfredo Acuña highlighted an exciting night of boxing put on by Pharoahs and Prodesa.
It had been an extremely difficult week for “El Toro,” the native of Chontales, as he has been dealing with his Mother’s deteriorating health.
A visibly troubled Benevides showed up for Thursday’s weigh-in 2 pounds overweight, resulting in the automatic loss of his Fedecentro title.
Instead of pulling out of the fight, Benavides focused his aggression and after 3 rounds of the two fighters exchanging equally devastating shots, “El Toro” recorded an impressive 4th round TKO over the skilled Acuña.
As the ref called the knockout, Benevides, dropped to his knees and pounded the canvas in a rage before collapsing on his back and bringing his gloves to his eyes. It was an uninhibited display of raw emotion and everyone who knew what he is dealing with away from the ring could feel his pain.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Santos Benevides, his Mother and their family.
