19/11/2009 at 5 o’clock in the morning a team of 6 Nicarguan breakdancers boarded a plane to travel to São Paulo, Brazil to represent their country in an international breakdance battle to be broadcast on Brazilian Mtv. It was the first time on a plane for all six, and for a majority, their first time out of the country.
The Electrobreakers crew (consisting of B-boy Daniel, B-boy Larry, B-boy Gringo, B-boy Castro, B-boy Pasquier and B-boy Javier) earned their way to Brazil by battling other Nica crews and B-boys at the Nicalibre championships earlier this year.
After securing a spot in this weekend’s tournament, things looked bad when the team lost their sponsor, but at the last minute Claro stepped in and paid the way for the crew to get to Brazil as well as helping support a documentary that is being filmed about the B-boys and their experience.
(The only other Central American country to make it to the battle is Costa Rica and how sweet would it be to eliminate them in the first round???)
Hours before their departure, the Electrobreakers gave a crowd at the Mall de Las Americas a sneak preview of what Brazil can expect.
Hecho will be presenting exclusive coverage of the B-boys and their trip in HECHO 05.
