Pacquiao vs Tavaré

17 November 2009

pacmanVRtabare

Last Saturday night Manny Pacquiao destroyed the previously 34-1 Miguel Cotto. The fight was stopped, mercifully, by the referee 55 seconds into the final round.

Watching Pacquiao that night I knew I was watching a master at work. In other words, it was the opposite of watching David Tavaré live, and unfortunately, at Tavaré’s concert that same night, there was no referee to mercifully put a stop to his singing.

When I first heard David Tavaré was coming to Nicaragua, much like 99 percent of other people not from Spain my first reaction was “Who the fuck is David Tavaré?”

As I soon found out, he is the “mastermind” behind the dance club hits “Summer Love” (not to be confused with “Hot Summer Night”) and Hot Summer Night (not to be confused with “Summer Love”).

Summer Love is of course the song they play all the time at clubs like Hipa and Moods with the chorus “Oh lalala, lalala, oh lalala” and Hot Summer Night is the one that goes “Na na na na na na na na, Yeahhh.”

Due to the fact that I absolutely hate those songs, I was really looking forward to missing his concert, but I became convinced to attend when I heard the opening acts would be Monroy & Surmenage and Milly Majuc, that Pacquiao vs Cotto would be shown on big screens and that there would be an open bar (and obviously that a friend gave me a free ticket).

On Saturday, I showed up for the concert, but after an hour of standing around, I ended up bailing to catch the fight across the street at Las Galerias.
After watching Pacquiao absolutely dismantle the bigger and stronger Miguel Cotto, I returned to the concert and was disappointed because during the fight I missed Monroy & Surmenage. I had never seen them in a big venue like Mundo e and had been really looking forward to it. I was however just in time to see Milly Majuc perform, and as usual they were great. Unfortuantely, their set was way too short.

Finally, David Tavaré hit the stage and my immediate reaction was to ask my friend, “Como se dice, douchbag en espanol?” The guy looked ridiculous as he pranced around dressed in all white singing “Oh lalala” and “Na na na na.”

His set was great though, because being a huge hater I thoroughly enjoyed drinking cold, free beer and mocking him. If he ever comes back, I will definitely accept another free ticket to do it all again.

  7. [...] Parafraseando la reseña de otro concierto, el 99% de la gente no alemana en Nicaragua no sabian quienes eran Die Toten Hosen. Afortunadamente, en este caso el problema no incluia ni un gramito de “douchbag-ness“. [...]
