Maluca is a Dominican-American born and raised in New York City, who got her break when she met super producer Diplo at a karaoke bar. He put her down with Mad Decent and produced the first single, “El Tigeraso,” an anti shout out to lame dudes trying to holler (I would think 99% of females in Nicaland could relate to that…).
This song dropped in August, but it just recently got the video treatment. The beat is on an electro “mambo violento” sped-up merengue vibe, and like everything to come off of the Mad Decent label it’s a little weird (but always in a good way).
They won’t be playing this in Moods or Chaman anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be…
Speaking of straight-up Mambo Violento, the undisputed king right now is Omega, hailing from the DR. That dude has been killing it this past year. I have my fingers crossed this sound can catch on in Nicaragua, it’s a nice change of pace from the redundant playlist the clubs here regurgitate on a nightly basis.
