“La cuneta (the curb) is a common area where a lot of cultural events take place, events that are essential Nicaraguan idiosyncrasies.”

Silvio Balladares: La Poupée from Jonathan Jackson on Vimeo.
Originally conceptualized as a photo shoot to be submitted to Materia Bruta, an Artistic Exposition held in Managua, photographer Silvio Balladares’ vision changed when he found himself inside the Granada studio of painter Jean Marc Calvet. Inspired to try something new, Balladares opted to photograph model Sara Bolt Kalfon, in – and out of – clothes by designer Estefanía Lacayo, at a higher frame rate, in order to be able to animate the photographs into a video and bring La Poupée (The Doll) to life.
